Session one

Creating a Supportive Team Culture
Sara Reeves
LifeWorks

Program sustainability and impact are improved when there is limited staff turnover, and positive staff morale.  When staff feel engaged, connected, and supported, it can strengthen team functioning and increase staff satisfaction.
In this session, participants will learn strategies for proactively creating a positive and supportive team culture.  Session themes include: appreciating and using staff differences, managing positively, and using staff voice.  Participants will hear examples of strategies used, and leave with resources and tools that can be used in practice with their own teams.  Participants will have the opportunity to share what has worked for them, assess what they are currently doing to create a supportive team culture, and develop a plan of action.

Session two

A Strengths Approach to Work with Youth
Janis Henderson
J. Henderson Education Service

T
he foundation upon which programs and services are built informs the message presented by providers and the message received by participants and clients. As professionals we need to consider the foundation we use in our work with youth. Envision deficit models and approaches as a crumbling, poorly constructed base; envision strengths models and approaches as a solid foundation providing a stable base for growth. Attendees in the A Strengths Approach to Work with Youth workshop will enjoy a fun approach to understanding the scholarly knowledge and research support for utilizing a strengths approach to programs and client services. The workshop will demonstrate the advantage and pro-motive effect of identifying and utilizing underlying protective factors in development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services. The workshop does not ignore risk factors; instead, methods to consider risk factors through a strengths lens rather than a challenge-oriented lens will be discussed. The interactive nature of the workshop provides fun experiential learning to increase understanding.

Session Four

Stephanie McCoy
Cecilia Tamez-Rodriguez

Our presentation will include a brief introduction to the Socio Ecological Model and the reasoning behind selecting the curricula we use. We will also provide an overview of the curricula we are using and how our programming works to meet communities where they are.
